Interview with Author Annabelle Anders

My guest today is author Annabelle Anders. Hello! Welcome to Writing in the Modern Age! It’s such a pleasure to have you here.

Can you tell us a little bit about your latest book? When did it come out? Where can we get it?

https://books2read.com/u/3G9kkL

My latest book is the finale to my series, the Devilish Debutantes: Hell of a Lady. It releases December 12th, and features a vicar and a somewhat scandalized debutante. When it releases, it will be available wide. After a few weeks, I usually switch over to KU.

Great!

Is there anything else which prompted this book? Something that inspired you?
I didn’t mean it to, but I must say the MeToo movement and the Kavanaugh hearings. Sexual harassment isn’t a new thing. I’d written the storyline without consciously making the connection.

All right.

Let me ask a different question...

When did you know you wanted to write? Or has it always been a pastime of yours?

I’ve wanted to write since I began reading. Initially, I went into journalism, but all the technology changed after I graduated and then I got married and had kids… waylaid me a bit...

Do you have any favorite authors yourself, Annabelle?

Mary Balogh. Tessa Dare. Lisa Kleypas and Grace Burrows.

All great names! I think I have six to eight Tessa Dare novels on a bookshelf in my bedroom, and I've definitely read one or two of the other authors' books.

So, do you write in a specific place? Time of day?

I write randomly throughout the day :) Sometimes on the couch, sometimes at the kitchen table, and occasionally in bed. I don’t have a cave but I’d love one!

Oh, me too! I imagine a large space with a literary theme, a 'room of one's own', as Virginia Woolf would say.

Are there any words you'd like to impart to fellow writers? Any advice?

Write for yourself.

Such a good tip! If we don't enjoy what we're writing, it will probably come out on the page...

Thank you so much for stopping by to visit us here today at Writing in the Modern Age. It was wonderful having you!  :)

Readers, here is the blurb for Hell of a Lady.

Regency Romance between an angelic vicar and a devilish debutante: A must read if you love sweet and sizzle with an abundance of heart.

THE DEVILISH DEBUTANTE

Miss Rhododendron Mossant has given up on men, love, and worst of all, herself. Once a flirtatious beauty, the nightmares of her past have frozen her in fear. Ruined and ready to call it quits, all she can hope for is divine intervention.

THE ANGELIC VICAR

Justin White, Vicar turned Earl, has the looks of an angel but the heart of a rake. He isn't prepared to marry and yet honor won't allow anything less. Which poses something of a problem... because, by God, when it comes to this vixen, a war is is waging between his body and his soul.

SCANDAL'S SWEET SIZZLE

She’s hopeless and he’s hopelessly devoted. Together they must conquer the ton, her disgrace, and his empty pockets. With a little deviousness, and a miracle or two, is it possible this devilish match was really made in heaven?

Hell of a Lady is the fourth book in the Devil's Debutantes Series but can also be read as a standalone novel.

Book 1: Hell Hath No Fury (Cecily)

Here is an excerpt from the book.

“How then did you come by the name Rhoda?”

She sighed loudly. “Rhododendron.”
A pink flower, from what he could recall. Hearty for landscaping. “One of my favorite flowers.” He would not make a joke of it.
She chuckled. “Well done, my lord.”
Could he woo this prickly young woman? As the thought crossed his mind, he brought himself up short. He was not looking for a wife. Was he? And he certainly couldn’t take on a woman in her circumstances.
God, but she was a beauty though. And she tugged at him in a visceral way. His eyes searched her face; strong, high cheekbones; delicate arching brows, and lips, full, plump, the color of a pomegranate.
She watched him back warily, as though waiting for him to chastise her for such insolence. Behind her eyes lurked that combination of defiance and fear he’d begun to recognize. He quickly searched his memory for what he knew of various flowers. “The Rhododendron is one of the heartiest of flowers, you know. It’s from the evergreen family. Why wouldn’t it be somebody’s favorite flowers?”
She looked for a moment as though she might soften, but then straightened her spine. “You haven’t studied the language of flowers, have you?”
He hadn’t. He’d heard of it but considered it something frivolous – something suited for lovesick swain with nothing better to do with their time. “I’m afraid not. Feel free to enlighten me.”
“But of course.” She pinched her lips and narrowed her eyes. “The Rhododendron isn’t exactly a romantic flower. Whereas most flowers signify beauty, or devotion or other such nonsense.” She bit her lip and twisted her mouth into that brittle smile once again. “The Rhododendron leans more toward the macabre side of human nature. When you see a rhododendron, you ought to consider it a warning. In the language of flowers, it means caution. Beware. Danger.”
“That doesn’t mean it isn’t beautiful,” he nearly whispered the words. He’d not meant to say them out loud.

Intriguing! What else are people saying about the series?

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

“So good! Wonderful book! An addicting series! Strong, fabulous characters. A plot that moves right along. This author doesn't dawdle or spend too much time where she shouldn't. This author and series is right up there with my favorites! You will enjoy this! - Aly, Amazon

"Yes! Another book from one of my newest favorite authors!!!! I have been waiting for the second installment of the Devilish Debutantes since I first read Hell Hath No Fury. I absolutely love this author and will buy and read anything she writes!! Her books are lovely escapes that have substance and meaning. As a SAHM, I am constantly bombarded with other people's problems, but when I'm able to grab time for myself - THIS author has perfectly embodied everything I want in my 'mini vacations'." - AvidReader, Amazon

Brilliantly charming! Romance, Comedy, and heartwarming...what more could you ask for! Love how their relationship grew with suspicion and it ends up with love. Some parts of the story were very heartwarming and I said 'awwww' out loud many times. And some things that had me laughing. You have to read it to believe it! I love the character so much that I drew the author fanart. This is a definitely a re-read for me. This was my first book by the author and I am awaiting for her next book. I cannot wait for what's in store in the next book when she writes another! Brava!😍 - Carlene Michalk, Amazon

Awesome...add it to your Goodreads bookshelf, readers!

Author Bio

Married to the same man for over 25 years, I am a mother to three children and two Miniature Wiener dogs. After owning a business and experiencing considerable success, my husband and I got caught in the financial crisis and lost everything; our business, our home, even our car.
At this point, I put my B.A. in Poly Sci to use and took work as a waitress and bartender.
Unwilling to give up on a professional life, I simultaneously went back to college and obtained a degree in Energy Management.
And then the energy market dropped off.
And then my dog died.
I can only be grateful for this series of unfortunate events, for, with nothing to lose and completely demoralized, I sat down and began to write the romance novels which had until then, existed only in my imagination.
I am happy to have found my place in life.
Finally.
