Interview with Author Tony Flood

My guest today is author Tony Flood. Hello! Welcome to Writing in the Modern Age! It’s such a pleasure to have you here.

Hello!  Thank you so much for inviting me on your blog today!
Of course!

Can you tell us a little bit about your book? When did it come out? Where can we get it?

Triple Tease is a spicy crime thriller full of suspense, twists and passion. Its unique plot sees the glamorous Katrina set out to trap suspected killer Justin, but when he starts to fall in love with her she finds herself responding.

“Readers are desperate to discover if it will end in blissful harmony – or death,” says Tamara McKinley – worldwide best-selling author of more than 30 novels.
Triple Tease is available on Amazon, and signed copies, at reduced prices, can be obtained here.

Intriguing!

Is there anything which prompted this book? Something that inspired you?

The inspiration behind Triple Tease was my love of crime novels and the belief that I could write a better thriller than many already on the market.

Additionally, I was inspired to write my latest book, the new edition of celebrity revelations My Life With The Stars – Sizzling Secrets Spilled!, by my many interviews with stars from showbiz and sports.

That's fantastic! ;)

Let me ask a different question.

When did you know you wanted to write? Or has it always been a pastime of yours?

I started writing at an early age and enjoyed a successful career as a journalist both in Fleet Street and on regional papers. I was also an executive with Sky Television.

Cool!

Do you have any favorite authors yourself, Tony?

My favorite authors are Lee Childs, Peter James, Tamara McKinley and my wife Heather Flood, who writes short stories and children's books.

Nice!

Do you write in a specific place? Time of day?

I usually write in the lounge of my home overlooking a harbor in Eastbourne. My favorite time is late at night, but if I get a good idea during the day then I put it down immediately on my laptop or notebook.

I know what you mean! The muse has no sense of time... ;)

Are there some words you'd like to impart to fellow writers? Any advice?

If you get an idea, write it down even if it is when you wake up in the middle of the night.

It is vital to carry out extensive research and to engage with people – this particularly applies to non-fiction writers who need to conduct interviews in order to come up with compelling stories about others' experiences.

This was the case with the new edition of MY LIFE WITH THE STARS – SIZZLING SECRETS SPILLED! It applied both when I was encouraging showbiz stars such as Des O'Connor to pass on amusing anecdotes, and while I was interviewing those who had been involved in epic experiences, particularly in my exclusive interview with former Liverpool goalkeeper Bruce Grobbelaar immediately after the Hillsborough disaster, and when preparing sensitive questions to obtain Bobby Charlton’s emotional memories of how Manchester United rose from the ashes of the Munich air crash.

Marketing is such a key factor now. With potential readers having countless thousands of books to choose from, it is so helpful to spread the word through respected bloggers like MARIE LAVENDER.

More details about my books can be found on websites www.celebritiesconfessions.com and www.fantasyadventurebooks.com

Both sites contain special reduced price promotional offers of signed copies – another good marketing method!

Awesome, and thanks for the compliment! ♥

Thank you so much for stopping by to visit us here today at Writing in the Modern Age. It was wonderful having you!  :)

Super delicious heroine Katrina takes revenge for the assault on her sister. She then challenges compassionate copper DCI Livermore to ignore the rule book and offers to help him nail a serial killer by acting as the bait in a honey trap.

Katrina goes on a date with the main suspect, and there’s another murder as the plot twists and turns to reach a totally unexpected climax.

Here is an excerpt from the book.

Katrina sat at the back of the community centre hall listening to DCI Livermore’s interesting talk to about 30 WI members on what precautions women could take to reduce the risk of being victims of crime. That newspaper reporter missed the point completely, she thought. Far from wasting his time, Livermore is passing on valuable advice and giving the WI members reassurance.
She did not make her presence known until the policeman was about to leave. Then, barging her way in front of a huge woman, who was about to attach herself to him, Katrina walked alongside Livermore and asked if she could have a few words.
“What can I do for you, Miss Merton?” he replied brusquely as they walked out of the building.
“Actually, I think there’s something I can do for you, Chief Inspector.”
“This is rather inappropriate, Miss Merton, especially as I’m intending to invite you back to Sussex House to interview you under caution regarding the murder of Hugo Protheroe.”
She blanched but refused to be put off. “Perhaps you might want to take a rain check on that when you realize what I have in mind.”
“If it’s what I think it is, then you’ll be wasting your time, Miss Merton.”
“You’ve got it wrong, Chief Inspector. What I’m offering is not my body but my help in catching the serial killer who’s so far eluded you and caused you to be heavily criticized in the Press.”
They were now walking along the road together.
“And what are you suggesting?”
“I’ve read up on the murders of two local women and see that both of them were members of a dating agency in Brighton. You arrested a male member of the same agency but had to let him go through lack of evidence. Well, if I joined that dating agency, I could make a point of going out with your main suspect and helping you catch him.”
“I think you’ve been watching too many far-fetched television programmes, Miss Merton.”
“You seem to forget that I worked for MI5 so I’m not naive about undercover operations. I processed reports from surveillance teams who followed the movements of terrorists and tapped their phone calls. I would be the perfect person to help you carry out such an operation.”
“And just why would you make me this offer?”
“I think you know.”
They had reached Livermore’s car. He opened the passenger door and invited her to get in.
When they were both seated, he stared at her. Katrina felt obliged to speak again. “You say you were planning to interview me under caution – presumably about my fingerprints being in the Rover. I thought I’d explained that to you. I was given a lift in the car at some time – if not by Landen Patel then by one of his friends.”
“You don’t sound too sure. I think this particular topic is something we should discuss at the police station.”
“Can’t we talk informally about it now? Loads of students were probably passengers in that car at one time or another – sometimes spaced out after a few drinks. I don’t see why it’s so difficult for you to accept that I was among them.”
“Perhaps you drove the car yourself?”
“No, I didn’t.”
“But you knew that Patel kept the keys in his locker.”
“So did a lot of people – that’s just circumstantial.”
“No doubt you would claim it was only circumstantial that you used the same college car park in which Hugo Protheroe was murdered. The same car park where we believe he sexually assaulted your sister three months earlier?”
“So what are you suggesting, Chief Inspector?”
“I’m suggesting that you had a good motive to kill him.”
“Yes, I had a motive, but no doubt so did many other women if he was a rapist.”
“Unlike them, you were working in the college, holding an evening class on the night of the murder.”
“So are you planning to arrest me?” Katrina’s attempt at posing the question as a challenge did not work because she was trembling with fear.
Livermore didn’t answer so she continued. “I’m hoping that your concerns about me and the Rover can become academic if I help you by catching another pervert.”
“Ah, yes. The plan you mentioned just now for you to meet our murder suspect through his dating agency and get him to confess.”
Katrina sighed, causing Livermore’s smirk to change to a smile. It gave her some encouragement.
“I think you need to take my offer seriously, Chief Inspector. You believe this killer could strike again, don’t you? And I could help you prevent it by acting as bait. If he attacks me while you’re keeping surveillance then other women will no longer be in danger.”
“What you’re proposing is unethical, Miss Merton, and completely against police procedures. I am duty bound to follow them.”
“You mean, the way they were followed while the Yorkshire Ripper killed thirteen women? And when all those poor kids were sexually assaulted while Jimmy Savile and Cyril Smith escaped prosecution? Yes, you’d be breaking the rules – but you could be saving a woman’s life. I think you should seriously consider what I’m offering you.”

Tense!
