Can you tell us a little bit about your latest book? When did it come out? Where can we get it?
My latest book Becca’s Dance came to me in a dream. It is the story of a first love. And how the journey of life will sometimes lead you back to a path you should have taken. Clay and Becca fell in love one summer when they were in their twenties. But sometimes loving someone so much it hurts is what drove Becca to pick not the path she wanted, but the path that was safe. Safe is not always best.
The story just came to me and demanded it be written. Clay and Becca wrote the story as we went along. True love fuels the romantic in me.
I always had stories in my head. I thought everyone did. The invention of the laptop and spell check prompted me to start writing all these stories. Then I found out there were also characters in my head that were going to tell their story. Has it always been a pastime? I remember standing on a deck at Cal Poly and knowing then I wanted to be a wife and mother. Now that I have raised everyone-children, husband, dog and cat-I have the time to write. However I found that since I have become a full-time writer, I need a hobby!
Nicholas Sparks inspires my writing. I also like a good tear-jerker.
I have a great writing room with all my stuff. But my place to write is in the family room, in my comfy chair, in front of a warm fireplace with my dog, Bella, next to me. Time of day? First thing in the morning, with my cup of coffee while all is quiet with the world.
If you have a story in your head, just write it. It doesn’t have to be perfect, in order or all there. It will come. I write in scenes, then they all come together at the end. There is no one way. If you need to plot it out, do so. Any advice? Never give up. You are never too old to follow a dream. Believe in yourself.
