Hi, readers! We
have a real treat in store for you today, a spotlight on a book by Diana Rubino, a talented author!
Diana, an author I
met on my journey, has a blog tour running right now.
A BLOODY GOOD CRUISE is now on audio with the deep,
resonant and sexy voice of narrator Anthony Lee.
Let's check out the details, shall we?
About the Book:
A Bloody Good Cruise:
Romance writer Mona Rossi's book
sales are slipping. She needs new ideas and fast! Her vampire love,
Fausto Silvius is a doctor aboard the Romanza, a luxury cruise ship.
Holding a "Motion on the Ocean" writer's cruise sounds like a great
idea. What better way to combine a career boost with romance?
But they soon discover hunters on board who give chase to Fausto and
his fellow vampires. While he longs to bring Mona into his world, how
can he convince her to join him with fringe lunatics on the hunt? In the
prime of her life, she's not sticking her neck out for a shot at
Mona forced a dose of cheer
through her jangly nerves. Vampire hunters wouldn’t have the balls to attack
Fausto and his friends on this ship. Security was tight. “Well, you’re here, so
does that mean you’ve been going out, and aren’t confined to your house any
Fausto shrugged. “Almost. I
couldn’t wallow in self-pity forever. And I knew seeing you would make it
She smiled and gave him a
genuine Italian cheek pinch. “I’ll cheer you up, faccia bella, you can
count on that. You must feel safe.” She gestured at the tacky duds. “I mean,
“Don’t let this scare you,
but –” He glanced around over the rims of his shades. Uh-oh. Whenever he
said “don’t let this scare you,” it scared her. “I got an ominous message at
the doctor’s office earlier.”
“What—” She swallowed a
lump. “What kind of ominous message?”
He looked away, shaking his
head. “Nothing to get alarmed about. The hunters just want me to know they’re
here. After the initial jolt wore off, I said, ‘okay, I’m being stalked again.’
But I’m used to it. It doesn’t make me constantly look over my shoulder like in
the old days. My family’s murder gave me a reality check. If they want me,
they’ll get me. I can’t let it interfere with my work, or what little leisure
time I have here. And you shouldn’t either.” He gazed at her adoringly and
cupped her cheek. His hand was surprisingly warm. “But you’re still scared. All
the blood’s drained out of your face, and not in a good way.”
So let's chat with the author, Diana Rubino, about her audiobook.
Diana, nice to have you here on Writing in the Modern Age again! Glad you could stop by!
Tell us a bit about your audiobook...
A BLOODY GOOD
CRUISE is a fun-filled blend of the
vampire world and luxury cruises, starring romance
author Mona Rossi and Fausto Silvius, a full-blooded vampire. The popularity of
cruises and vampires make it a unique blend, but a very fun setting.
My stories are romances set against a backdrop of political
upheaval, court intrigue, poverty, general drama of the surroundings, and at
times a splash of the paranormal. What I’m trying to get across in my stories
is that love can prevail no matter what the conflicts and obstacles, earthly or
Coffeetime Romance says in its review, “A Bloody Good Cruise
is a high seas adventure with twists and turns around every corner. The lively
cast spins non-stop excitement with thrills and enough snags to keep the pages
BLOODY GOOD CRUISE Fun Facts
I wanted to combine Italian
vampires, comedy and cruising in one package, so I hopped on my imaginary ship The Romanza to
get my characters in all kinds of trouble. I envisioned the hero, Fausto, as
actor Vincent Irizarry (Dr. Hayward on All My Children). That made my job so
much easier. He is THE perfect vampire. Italian vampires and hunters (the
Vampire Ball Busters) leave the field wide open for comic relief, and I had
plenty of chances in this story. Since I'm hooked on cruising and I'm Italian,
I didn't need to do that much research.
met an Italian woman named Fausta in 1983 and always loved that name--I always
planned to use that name in one of my books someday. I finally got the chance
with the hero Fausto, close enough!
very first cruise was on the Eastern Mediterranean, beginning in Rome and
ending in Istanbul. The ports of call included Rhodes, Cyprus, Santorini, and
Egypt. Because I love Italy and cruising, I wanted to combine those passions
with a humorous story about vampires and how they face prejudice in the human
What inspired you to combine vampires and a cruise?
I always wanted to write a
vamp romance, and I love cruising, so I thought combining the two, especially
on an Italian cruise ship, would be unique and intriguing.
Let me ask a different question...
Did A Bloody Good Cruise require some research into vampire mythology?
Yes, I read a lot of vampire
lore books, a vamp encyclopedia, and did research into their history. In the
end, I made up my own scientific explanation of how my vampires became that
way; in ancient Rome, from a blood mutation. I wanted a scientific biological reason
they’d become this way, so it would be plausible. I mean, this could actually
happen in theory, just like time travel
—but it’s highly unlikely.
Do you have a favorite vampire hottie that really floats your boat (Sorry...bad pun. LOL)?
No, I really don’t—but in the
unlikely event this was ever made into a movie, I know the actor who would be
perfect for the role of my hero Fausto. He was on the soap All My Children,
Vincent Irizarry. Just take a look at him, and you’ll see why I think he’d make
the perfect vampire!
Can you recommend any other vampire fiction?
Of all the vampire fiction
I’ve read, I like Anne Rice’s stories the best. She really delves deep.
Thanks for visiting us, Diana! Your book sounds fantastic!
So, what are
readers saying about this book?
"The story line is very interesting and kept me
entertained throughout the book. The vampires in this book are not your average
“Diana Rubino has done it again.
She has taken a topic that most view as horror, turned it into humor and
written another book. Oh yeah, she has thrown in some really heated sex along
the way. I have to admit, I did enjoyed reading A Bloody Good Cruise, humor,
sex and all.”
Martha A. Cheves, Amazon
“Diana Rubino has created what I'd describe as a
cross-genre blending of romance, thriller, and eroticism that had me enthralled
from the beginning to the very end. Her clever rewriting of the vampire legend
and the tense, edge of the seat feel of the action in this cleverly written
novel made sure I was entertained throughout. The characters, particularly
Fausto and Mona, are thoroughly believable and the hunters who seek to destroy
the shipboard vampires add an element of danger to every situation in which the
central characters find themselves. A Bloody
Good Cruise throws a whole new spin on the traditional vampire legend, and, rather
to my surprise, I found I simply couldn't put it down. A well deserved five
stars for Ms. Rubino.”
