Jezebel felt no
pain and the initial fear at the feelings of suffocation had abated as her mind
had regained consciousness in this strange place. There was something calming,
even familiar in her surroundings, yet she could not understand why.
“So good to see
you, my dear.”
Jezebel spun in
the air towards the voice, her long black hair floating behind her like a
trailing silk ribbon. The man before her was neither young nor old. His face
was timeless with unnaturally pale skin that almost glowed in the darkness. He
had black lines around his eyes, a gold cap on his otherwise bald head and a
bare chest with an ornate circle of gold and gems around his neck. His lower
body was covered in robes that swayed in the weightlessness.
“Who are you?
Where am I?” Jezebel remained unnaturally calm. Her own features were creased
with obvious confusion.
“You do not
remember me? That is a shame.”
“You did not
answer my question.” Jezebel felt unexpectedly bold.
“Your friends
are not your friends at all, my dear. They have denied you your past, your
future.” The man’s dark eyes gleamed.
“Still, no answer
to my question. Where are we?”
“Ah, a little of
the old Jezebel survives, I see. We are in the Underworld. I have brought you
here to speak with you, without hindrance.”
“What hindrance
could there be in Shiloh?”
“Shiloh is how
should I say, protected. No one truly understands by whom. Then there are the
eyes and ears of the Holy men and women within.”
“You brought me
here in a most violent manner and now you speak in riddles. You said I did not
remember you. I ask again, who are you, why should I know you?”
“We played
together as children, when I apprenticed to your father. We enjoyed much then.
I have missed you.”
Jezebel tried to
remember; she could not make her mind open up to her past. There was a sense of
anticipation, yet fear was drifting in on her and she pushed herself back from
the man before her.
“Take me back.”
“Oh, now the
Princess emerges.”
“Princess…what
in the world are you talking about?”
“They have told
you nothing then?”
“I said take me
home.”
The man
approached Jezebel and touched her before she could move away. Her body felt
suddenly heavy and her mind began to fog.
“I will not
reveal all to you just yet, my dear. I will take you home but not without a
taste of your past.”
The world began
to spin and Jezebel saw images flashing before her. There was blood, so much
blood. Hanging from shackles was the body of a young woman with her heart torn
from her chest. Her vision blurred and as it cleared she saw nakedness, so much
lust and fear and pain all rolled into one.
“This is your
world, Jezebel, and the new Pharaoh wants you and your daughter to be returned
to it.”
The scream left
her lips as her body fell to the ground before her wash-basin.

I have to admit, part of me is a little sad to see the
end of my first complete series, but I am really looking forward to some new
fantasy adventures.
Unlike book one, Destiny
of Kings, and book two, Seed of Hope,
this 4th and final novel is not really a stand-alone story and
should be read as part of the series.

About the Author:
My fantasy
novels are fast paced, character driven historical stories with strong
mystical, spiritual and theological themes mixed with elements of the classic
heroic/epic fantasy genre. My writing was first inspired by the heroic fantasy
style of David Gemmell, but I have most recently been compared to Traci
Harding.It turns out writing is in the blood. My Great Uncle was George Johnston (My Brother Jack) and although I don't claim to have his renowned literary style, I do write a mean fantasy novel.
I find culture, faith, philosophy and sociology intriguing and these topics are at the heart of my fantasy.
I live in Noosa, Australia with my husband and two sons, and I run a small business involving tourism and water sports. Occasionally I dabble in advocacy, mentoring and spend time on my personal entrepreneurial pursuits. When I am not writing I am either kite-surfing, stand up paddle surfing, traveling or volunteering in some capacity. I love cheese, chocolate and living a creative life.
