Pamela Ackerson’s storytelling all began with her younger brother, creating wonderful children’s stories on vacation trips to keep him occupied. Later, she started writing poems and short stories as a teen.

Born and raised in Newport, RI where history is a way of life, Pam lives on the Space Coast of Florida where you are encouraged to reach for the stars. She’s just a hop, skip, and jump from Orlando and Disney World, where imagination and fantasy abounds. She has three children - all girls - three grandchildren, and a wonderful husband who puts up with her writer quirks.

Pam may have majored in child psychology with a minor in English, but her distinguished choice of careers never made fruition. Instead, life led her to working in restaurants, interior decorating, owning an advertising business, content editor for a publishing house, teaching and owning a ballroom dance studio, and real estate investments. She is a practicing herbalist and has been involved in the use of natural treatment with raw herbs for over thirty years. As her day job, she currently works as the V.P. of Marketing and Advertising for the book review magazine, Affaire de Coeur

Here is an an excerpt...

Culaan felt Ariela’s hand slip from his as the sensation of spinning abated. He opened his eyes with panicked urgency and looked around into the gloomy forest.

“Did you hear what Morrigan said?” Genevieve asked Culaan casually as she tried to focus on his face in the dim light of predawn grey that greeted them.

“Where is Ariela?” Culaan turned around more than once, his eyes squinting into the dim surroundings trying to make out where they were, where Ariela was.
Genevieve lifted her bow from her shoulder and the ethereal light sprang into a bright silvery glow. Culaan pulled his sword from its scabbard and it too lit the early morning dimness with mystical light. The two warriors circled defensively with their backs together.
“She isn’t here, Cul.” Genevieve could sense her best friend’s panic through his body which shuddered with supressed fear and anger.
“That damned Angel has taken her and left us behind.” Culaan snarled the words and Genevieve felt her own anxiety rising.
“No, we are not in the land of our clans, Culaan. Look!” Genevieve nodded to the flat plain that greeted them beyond the trees. ‘She must be here somewhere.”
Just as the pair of warriors relaxed, the sound of movement amongst the thick forest caused Genevieve to redraw her bow.
“Don’t make any sudden moves.” Culaan warned.
“Since when have I needed your instruction in battle!”
Culaan looked over his shoulder and caught sight of their foe. “We are surrounded. What was that damned Angel thinking?” He moved his sword between himself and the closest warrior. It seemed to buzz and sizzle with his frustration.
Genevieve released an arrow that flew through the air, pinning the collar of the closest warrior’s fur-lined coat to the tree branch just behind his left ear. “The next one goes between your eyes.” The arrow sparkled with light but didn’t ignite the coat or the branch. “I’m getting the hang of this.” The Huntress congratulated herself.
“And that wasn’t a sudden movement now was it!” Culaan growled as he rolled his sword around his wrist, the lightning like effect leaving streaks in the pre-dawn light.
“It be the son of Oden, Atta.” A young man’s voice rang out as the first rays of sun crested the distant mountains.
“Don’t you be going any closer, Blaze.” A broad-shouldered man moved forward, pushing the boy behind him protectively.
“Look at him, Atta. I’m sure it’s him. Look at that sword!” The boy peered around the warrior to get a better look as he bounced from foot to foot with obvious excitement.
“Is the boy right? Are you sent from the gods?”
Culaan looked at Genevieve and smiled. The Huntress returned the grin mischievously and shrugged.
“Technically, yes.” Culaan answered carefully, wiping the grin from his face as he cautiously sheathed his sword, the light disappearing instantly.
“What happens in the after-life for those who impersonate gods?” Genevieve whispered. Culaan frowned, appearing to suddenly reconsider the wisdom of his deceit.
“See, Atta. I told you he’s Thor. Just look at him and she must be Skathi.”
“Take a breath, Blaze. We’ll see. Skathi or not, will you lower that bow, woman?”

Wow, intriguing!

Let's chat with the author for a bit...

Fiona, it's wonderful to have you here on Writing in the Modern Age again! Glad you could stop by!

Can you tell us a little bit about your life or background?

I released my first book in 2014 after nearly six years of writing (procrastinating). It’s still available on Amazon and on alle-book retailers. This one is free to anyone who wants to see what my writing is all about.

Great!

A lot of readers love origin stories. What inspired you to start writing?

I started writing for a few reasons. I was bored, having just taken over a new business that could be very quiet at times, but it’s what I chose to write that was really my inspiration. I felt like I had something I needed to share, but I didn’t feel right telling other people what to feel or believe. So, I chose to write fantasy, but in a way that might be more thought-provoking; a deeper meaning of sorts.

Nice!

Let me ask a related question...

How did you get into writing fantasy?

Fantasy was pretty much the main fiction genre I had been reading since I'd become an adult. I read a lot of teen romance as a kid, the occasional mystery novel, but as I matured I felt a connection with fantasy I didn’t necessarily feel with the other genres. I loved the light and dark of fantasy and when I first read David Gemmell, I was certain fantasy was my favorite genre.

Well, the decision you made certainly appears to agree with you! I say do whatever makes you happy. ;)

Let's try something else.

What do you feel sets Relic Seeker apart from other books in the genre?

Relic Seeker, like Call of the Druids, is not an ordinary young adult fantasy novel. The series is written like television episodes and it’s my hope that readers are left hanging every few chapters like they would be if they were watching an episode of Shadow Hunters, Charmed or even Buffy.

Thanks for visiting us, Fiona! Love the premise of your book!

About the Author:

I am currently writing two fantasy series side by side, The Eternal Realm and The Priestess Chronicles. Both have elements of mythology and theology set in various historical time periods. They are character driven stories with all the elements of the classic heroic/epic fantasy genre.

I live in Noosa, Australia with my husband and two young adult sons, where we run our family small business involving tourism and water sports.

When I am not writing, you will likely find me kite-surfing, stand up paddle surfing, traveling or volunteering in some capacity.

I am the great niece of Australian literary author George Johnston who is best known for his book My Brother Jack, which was made into a mini series with ABC. Although I don't write with the literary style of Uncle George, I have been told I write a compelling fantasy novel.

I find culture, faith, philosophy and sociology intriguing and these topics are at the heart of my fantasy.
