Ten seconds may be all she has left …

Kate Edison witnesses her father’s death and, in order to keep his memory alive, decides to follow in his footsteps by joining the CIA. She molds herself into becoming exactly what the CIA is looking for—and captures their interest, both personally and professionally. But before she can finish the CIA process, Kate is offered a position as an espionage agent in another highly secretive government agency, which she accepts.

While completing her agency training, Kate is catapulted into a shadowy world where wealth and power are the ultimate goal, and those in charge will stop at nothing to get it. While on the job, Kate uncovers secrets that, if revealed, would cost her life, but if kept, could bring down a nation. Isolated and unsure of who to trust, she brings in a fellow agent, but pulling him into the web of conspiracy and lies puts a target on both their backs – and it will take every skill they’ve ever learned as agents to stay alive long enough to stop the enemy no one else can see.

So, what are readers saying about this book?

☆☆☆☆☆

"Thrilling read with a kick-ass heroine! This book was so fun to read. I loved the main character, Kate. She's part Ethan Hawke, part Sydney from Alias, with just a dash of Charlie's Angels thrown in. She's got some superhero-ish qualities but some very human ones too. I was routing for her from page one. The novel is well plotted and full of surprises. It didn't feel like a book I'd already read a thousand times, which I always appreciate. Definitely worth taking the chance on a first time author." - Emmarhujo, Amazon

☆☆☆☆☆

"Suspenseful, smart, and top secret!! From the opening paragraph to the last...this story had me completely captivated. A riveting story of a strong female character who’s journey into the secret world of government security is utterly jaw dropping. I couldn’t put the book down. I loved the voice of this character from this fresh new author and can’t wait for the next installment of this series!" - Jasmine B, Amazon

☆☆☆☆☆

"Great spy thriller with a fabulous main character. Loved it! I don't read a lot of spy thrillers, but this book makes me want to read more of them. Great debut novel." - Rebekah, Amazon

☆☆☆☆☆

"Thrilling ride from a great new author! This book was great!! I loved it! It was a thrilling story and really well written. I can’t believe she is a new author. I can’t wait until the next one comes out. If you haven’t yet, buy this book and read it!!" - Steve Schleiffarth, Amazon

Intriguing!

Let's chat with the author for a bit...

L.A., nice to have you here on Writing in the Modern Age! Glad you could stop by!

Can you tell us a little bit about your life or background? When did your first book come and where can we get it?

Thank you for featuring me on your blog! I am excited to be here. So, I am actually a hairstylist, or was until I had my third out of four children. I loved it and was a really fulfilling career. I worked for Disney World, two different salons, and was a National Educator for the Paul Mitchell corporation, certified to teach stylists all around the world the latest hair techniques.

My first book, Ten Seconds to Dead, came out on January 28th, 2020. You can find it on Amazon. Book two, Ten Seconds to Pandemic, will be available in May.

Wow, that's great!

A lot of readers love origin stories. What inspired you to start writing?

I decided to start writing because I had this crazy dream. I dreamt the entire preface of Ten Seconds to Dead, but in my dream, I was omniscient and knew all the how’s and why’s of what happened. I woke up and quickly wrote down my dream, because I thought that it was really original. I am, and always have been, a voracious reader and I had never read a book with that storyline. That said, I never – in a thousand years – thought that I would write a book. I had always considered myself firmly in the readers-only category. But I kept thinking of the dream and what a cool story it could make, I couldn’t get it out of my head. So, I went out and bought a computer - because I seriously didn’t have one that worked - then sat down and started writing. Six months later, Ten Seconds to Dead was finished.

Nice!

So, let me ask a different question here...

How did you get into writing thrillers?

I got into writing espionage thriller because of my dream. I was surprised how much I enjoyed writing this particular genre. I love the twists and turns a book like this can have. I also love romance, and had to throw that in the mix. I mean, what’s a book without romance? :)

Too right! ;) And I say do whatever makes you happy.

So, what, do you feel, sets Ten Seconds to Dead apart from other books in the genre?

That’s a good question. I think that the feedback I get the most is, “I didn’t think that this was my kind of genre”. I think that Ten Seconds to Dead really spans a lot of different tastes; there’s romance, action, thrills and some pretty superhuman capabilities. As a reader, I love a book with a lot of surprises, and Ten Seconds to Dead serves them up continually.

Sounds good!
